Debate One, an election cocktail

Just a few more weeks and the pain will be over, or maybe just starting for some. Without taking sides in the November election results or tonight’s first of the three Clinton-Trump debates, we offer this truly American Tennessee whisky (no “e”, please) reinforced cocktail flavored with a lemon twist and supported by two imports, absinthe from France and citron vodka from California. Let’s toast NBC’s Lester Holt with this one. He may need it. This recipe is intended for four, but we can see a smaller number sharing it.

Debate One mdc-2016-debate-one
4 ounces Dickel Tennessee Sour Mash Whisky
2 ounces Hangar 1 Buddha’s Hand Citron vodka
1 ounce Absinthe Ordinaire
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1 long strip of lemon peel

Half fill a large mixing glass with ice. Add all the spirits and squeeze the lemon peel into the mix before adding the peel. Stir slowly for 30 seconds. Pour into chilled cocktail glasses.
