Bride and Groom, wedding cocktails

It’s wedding season and we’re tripping joyfully over the invitations. We were asked to do a set of His and Her cocktails for one couple. The idea here is to make a base with the spirit, juices, and modifiers. Then pour a measured amount of the base over ice, top with a splash of soda and drop in a garnish. Either drink also can be served as a punch by adding the base to a large bowl filled with ice and stirring in the soda and garnish. Each recipe makes about 30 servings. The Bride’s drink is less alcoholic.

Bride BrideGroomCocktail vert
32 ounces vodka
12 ounces pineapple juice
12 ounces grapefruit juice
2 ounces grenadine
Soda water
Sliced strawberries

Mix the first four ingredients as the base. Pour 2 ounces into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass and garnish with 2 or 3 slices of strawberry. Alternately, the base, 12 ounces of soda water and 12 thinly sliced strawberries can be mixed in a gallon-sized punch bowl and served over ice.

Groom
32 ounces bourbon
6 ounces orange juice
4 ounces Campari
2 ounces Peychauds Bitters
Soda water
Orange slices

Mix the first four ingredients as the base. Pour 2 ounces into an ice filled old-fashioned glass. Top with a splash of soda water, stir, and garnish with an orange slice.

Tasting notes: Enjoy in sickness and health, for better, for worse.
