Crescent Moon, moonshine cocktail

We’re having a hard time stepping away from moonshine-based drinks. There was a great deal of talk last year during London Cocktail Week by bartenders and spirit venders about coming trends. More cocktails, they said, will be based on clear or white spirits: tequila, gin, Ireland’s poitin, and America’s moonshine. Bartenders, in particular, see a greater recipe range with spirits combining easily with juices, herbs, and spices. Here’s our answer: A combination of moonshine, splash of bourbon, and citrus juices in a tall glass.

Crescent Moon Crescent Moon 1 vert crop
1 1/2 ounces moonshine
1/2 ounce bourbon
1 1/2 ounces pineapple juice
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce Aperol

Pour all the ingredients into an ice-filled highball glass. Stir. Top with soda and stir again. Squeeze an orange wedge over the drink and drop into the glass.

Tasting notes: Two-tone spirit balanced on fruit flavors.

Tomorrow: Shrubs
