Here’s an effort to use bourbon as gin in a rather liberal variation on the Negroni theme. Use a lighter, younger Tennessee style bourbon for this or it will be overly sweet.
1 1/2 ounces bourbon
1 ounce orange juice
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
1/2 ounce Campari
Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass with several ice cubes. Stir for 15 seconds to combine and chill. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
Tasting notes: Campari bitters balance the sweetness.
