Beautiful black-red cherries and bourbon seem an appropriate match. Add some maraschino liqueur, a touch of orange juice and it’s done. The signature of a crusta is a sugared rim and a long peel of citrus hanging in and out of the glass.
Cherry Crusta
2 ounces bourbon
1/2 ounce orange juice
1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
6 stemmed and pitted bing cherries
Wet the rim of an old-fashioned glass and dip in sugar. Muddle the cherries in a cocktail shaker. Add several ice cubes. Pour in the bourbon, orange juice and maraschino. Shake for 20 seconds. Pour through a fine-mesh strainer over ice into the old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a long peel of orange draped partly outside the glass.
Tasting notes: Bourbon + fruit notes create a deeply flavorful, satisfying drink.
