Double Up, martini cocktail

Here’s another riff off the classic martini. We wanted to mix gin with another white spirit then dress it with a touch of vermouth and almond flavor. Grappa, with its taste kick, came to mind. After a series of tastings to balance the flavors, we offer up this drink. The olive garnish adds a briny, before-dinner flourish.

Double Up Double Up vert
1 1/2 ounces gin
1/2 grappa
1/4 ounce dry vermouth
1/4 ounce orgeat or almond syrup

Pour all the ingredients into a mixing glass with several ice cubes. Stir evenly for 15 to 20 seconds until combined and thoroughly chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail for martini glass. Garnish with two stuffed olives on a cocktail spear.

Tasting notes: Almond, vermouth and gin aromatics produce a softened grappa finish.

Tomorrow: Maracas
