Citrus Express, Jägermeister cocktail

Jägermeister (don’t forget the umlaut!) is a liqueur with an original recipe tracing back to 1930s Germany. The updated formula has found a new home in, of all places, America’s college scene where drinking is an intramural activity. Here’s a drink for 2 that gets Jägermeister into a big citrus mix and out of the collegiate world of poppers, slammers and shots.

Citrus Express Citrus Express pour vert
Juice of 1 blood orange
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of 1 lime
2 ounces fresh pineapple juice
4 ounces gin
1 ounce Jägermeister
1/2 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces soda water

Place 3 large ice cubes in 2 large wine glasses. Pour all ingredients except the soda water into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake until well chilled. Divide between the 2 glasses. Top each with 1 ounce of soda water. Stir and drop a thin lime slice on top.

Tasting notes: A thirst quencher. Good citrus tang with Jägermeister’s punch.

Tomorrow: Martini Monday
