The best Irish coffee has few ingredients and, as an after-dinner or apres-ski drink, has few warming equals. Make sure the coffee is freshly brewed. The lightly sweetened whip cream can be made ahead and kept in the refrigerator for several hours.
2 teaspoons of granulated sugar
1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
Whipped cream, sweetened lightly and whipped to soft peaks.
Put sugar and whiskey in a mug or thick-walled goblet. Add coffee to within an inch of the rim. Stir gently until sugar has dissolved. Slowly pour in whipped cream to the rim.
