Search here for Negroni recipes. A great drink, for great causes. Negroni. This is an Italian thing. You start with Campari, a bright red Italian bitter, designed to be consumed as a digestive. Take it up a notch by combining with with a little soda. Twist of lemon. Que casa! Now mix Campari with sweet vermouth and, presto-pronto, you have created the Americano. Shove on stage one Count Negroni who asked the bartender to add gin to mix and,…
Imbibe magazine and Campari kick off their jointly-sponsored Negroni Week, June 2-8, 2014. Learn more about it below and also on our Bar Talk blog. This preview of coming attractions is a riff on the classic Campari cocktail, the Negroni. The name GVCO is an anagram of this version’s four ingredients: G for gin, V for vermouth (dry, light vermouth), C for Campari, the famed Italian bitter, and O for orange juice (fresh!). The classic…
Here’s our final entry for this year’s Negroni Week. Treaty Oak Distilling in Austin, Texas, has taken their highly aromatic gin, barrel aged it in separate batches between 1 to 2 years, blended it and bottled it as Waterloo Antique Gin. This smooth aromatic gin, combined with Fernet Branca — as substitute for sweet vermouth — and Campari, kicks up the taste level in your grandfather’s classic Negroni. New Groany 1…
Here is the second drink for the Imbibe magazine and Campari sponsored Negroni Week. Though this might be the standard Negroni, even it has variables. We’ve used the highly aromatic, 114-proof Genius Navy Strength Gin. You can serve this in a cocktail glass or over ice in an old-fashioned glass. You also can go with a lemon or orange garnish. The lemon garnish will give the Campari a taste spike; the orange adds a sweeter note. Negroni 1…
Welcome to Negroni Week, a celebration of the gin, Campari and sweet vermouth cocktail created more than 100 years ago. During this week we’ll offer different riffs on the traditional drink, and other Campari-influenced cocktails. To start, we’re going for something completely different — a martini-like recipe. We used Moody June gin from Bone Spirits in Smithville, Texas, balanced it with Aperol, a milder bitter also made by…
This drink gets its name from the initial letters of its four ingredients. G for gin, V for vermouth (dry, light vermouth), C for Campari, the famed Italian bitter, and O for orange juice. The combination is a riff on the classic Campari cocktail, the Negroni. Imbibe magazine and Campari kick off their jointly-sponsored Negroni Week, June 2-8, 2014. GVCO 1 1/2 ounces gin 1 1/2 ounces dry vermouth 1 ounce Campari Juice of half an orange Place…
While Christopher Columbus is hailed for “discovering America” on his first voyage to the New World in 1492, all he really did was bump into an island or two in the Caribbean. Our “New World” cocktail celebrates Columbus’ landfall with a tart concoction of rum and citrus. We use Flor de Caña Extra Dry, a rum from Nicaragua, because it blends well. The drop of Campari is a bitter nod to Admiral Columbus’ homeland, and part of…
We couldn’t help thinking about names from the marvelous Dr. Seuss children’s books while working on this recipe. But Purple Lurple left us laughing so much we were barely able to finish the drink. Purple Cloud doesn’t sound as funny, but it does taste as good. Not to be confused with purple rain. Purple Cloud 1 1/2 ounces vodka 1 ounce unsweetened grape juice 1 ounce lemon juice 1 egg white Pour all the ingredients into an…
Here’s an effort to use bourbon as gin in a rather liberal variation on the Negroni theme. Use a lighter, younger Tennessee style bourbon for this or it will be overly sweet. Pronto 1 1/2 ounces bourbon 1 ounce orange juice 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth 1/2 ounce Campari Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass with several ice cubes. Stir for 15 seconds to combine and chill. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel….
Northern Italy, in the past 30 years, has become the world’s second largest grower of kiwi fruit; China, where the fruit originated, is first. This wasn’t even on our radar! So, maybe Marco Polo did get something in return for sharing the secret of noodle making with the Chinese. This recipe is a Negroni derivative. A good source for kiwi syrup is Monin, makers of a wide range of drink flavorings. Marco Verde 2 ounces of gin 1/2…
