Here’s a tribute to the Tennessee sour mash elixir produced by George Dickel, an American company that spells whisky without the “e.” It riffs off a whiskey sour but the hard citrus notes are balanced by using a good quality thick-cut orange marmalade. The mint provides a nice herbal touch.
Sour Mash Marmalade
1 1/2 ounces sour mash whiskey
1 teaspoon orange marmalade
2 dashes Angostura bitters
5 to 6 mint leaves
1 ounce cold soda water
Muddle mint and marmalade in an old-fashioned glass. Add 2 to 3 ice cubes, bitters and whiskey to the glass. Stir. Add soda water and stir again. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Tasting notes: Fresh mint and slightly sweet marmalade complement spice in the whiskey.
