Bay Pirate, tequila cocktail

San Leon, a small community on Galveston Bay in Texas, was a pirate hangout back about 200 years ago. Today, the town is home to a flock of monk parakeets and Railean Distillers, producers of rum and agave spirits. We pulled all this into a drink incorporating both spirits and large splashes of fresh juices.

Bay Pirate Bay Pirate C vert
1 1/2 ounces 100 percent agave spirit or tequila
1 ounce dark rum
1 1/2 ounces orange juice
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/4 ounce orange Curaçao

Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail or margarita glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Tasting notes: Fresh and invigorating, with a sleeper punch.

Tomorrow: Martini Monday
