Casablanca, rum cocktail

Forget the movie. The featured drink in that classic film — aside from Bogart swilling bourbon — was the Champagne Cocktail. This rum-based recipe gets its name from the white painted homes of Caribbean plantation owners. The lime juice cuts through what might appear to be a recipe on the sweet side.

Casablanca Casablanca top crop
2 ounces light rum
1/2 ounces triple sec
1/2 ounces maraschino liqueur
1/2 ounces lime juice

Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. A lime slice garnish is a nice option.

Tasting notes: Enjoyable, with a subtle punch.
