This is a heads up for Rum Week, a collection of sugar-cane and molasses based spirits beginning Monday, July 7. We’ve brought together traditional and specially created cocktails to celebrate the oldest spirit in the New World. By the way, there are versions of Liquid Coma calling for so many Old World liqueurs the resulting recipes would make Christopher Columbus wince.
Liquid Coma
1 1/2 ounces dark rum
1/2 ounce Southern Comfort
1/2 ounce dark creme de cacao
Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes. Shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or, for a longer drink, over ice in an old-fashioned glass.
Tasting notes: Rich and powerful.
Tomorrow: Red glare
