Imbibe magazine and Campari kick off their jointly-sponsored Negroni Week, June 2-8, 2014. Learn more about it below and also on our Bar Talk blog.
This preview of coming attractions is a riff on the classic Campari cocktail, the Negroni. The name GVCO is an anagram of this version’s four ingredients: G for gin, V for vermouth (dry, light vermouth), C for Campari, the famed Italian bitter, and O for orange juice (fresh!). The classic Negroni is gin, sweet vermouth and Campari in equal measure.
GVCO
1 1/2 ounces gin
1 1/2 ounces dry vermouth
1 ounce Campari
Juice of half an orange
Place all ingredients into an ice filled cocktail shaker. Shake briskly and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange slice.
Tasting notes: Fresh orange juice brightens and dry vermouth lightens the classic Negroni. Very enjoyable.
