We hope one day the relations between the United States and Cuba are amicably resolved. And in our vision, we see a ceremony during which the Cubans open the rum, juice the limes and the Americans unwrap the glasses and pour out the cola — let’s give a kickstart to this island classic.
Cuba Libre
1 1/2 ounces light rum
1 ounce lime juice
Chilled cola
Pour rum and lime juice into an ice-filled high-ball glass. Top with the cola. Stir. Garnish with a couple of lime slices.
Mocktail: Just leave out the rum and you’ve got a refreshing Lime Cola.
Tasting notes: Bracing. The brand of cola you choose will determine how strong, sweet, tart, and bubbly, etc.
Tomorrow: Auntie Plum
