Boléro, the orchestral piece by Maurice Ravel, was composed as a ballet. Premiered in 1928, it is his most famous composition and has remained popular during cultural shifts. It was featured in the film “Ten.” One of the most upbeat versions is performed by Pink Martini (how appropriate for a cocktail).
Boléro
1 1/2 ounce dark rum
3/4 ounce brandy
1/4 teaspoon sweet vermouth
Combine all the ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass. Stir slowly for 15 seconds or until thoroughly combined and chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Tasting notes: Like the music, complex, strong, classic. A drinker’s drink, described by one taster as the perfect cocktail for an island overlord.
Tomorrow: Humpty Dumpty
