This gin-based Alexander is at the head of a list of variants that use rum, brandy, and even include a non-alcoholic version. The key to an Alexander is vigorous shaking to thoroughly chill and combine the ingredients. If the sprinkled nutmeg garnish is not your thing, a light dusting of powdered cocoa is an option.
Alexander
1 ounce gin
1 ounce creme de cacao
1 ounce light cream (Half and half works fine)
Combine all the ingredients in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously until the shaker frosts. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with a light sprinkle of grated nutmeg.
Tomorrow: It has a glass named after it
