Scotch whisky. Right, without the “e.” This traditional distillate from Scotland falls into two categories: Single malt and blended Scotch. The blends can work well in mixed drinks, but most single malts — richer in taste and more expensive — shouldn’t be sacrificed on the cocktail altar. This cocktail balances the smokiness of blended Scotch with the peppery tones of Chartreuse and lengthens the taste with a splash of soda.
Nessie
1 1/2 ounces light, blended scotch
1/4 ounce Green Chartreuse
1 1/2 ounces soda water
Lime twist
Add Scotch and Chartreuse to a chilled Old Fashioned glass or short tumbler and stir. Add 2 or 3 ice cubes. Stir again, top with soda and stir a final time, and serve with a lime twist.
